Food you can't heat or eat easily is food working against you. This is the small stuff that quietly decides whether a meal happens: a compact stove and fuel, something to cook in, and something to eat with. None of it is heavy or expensive, and all of it is easy to leave out until the moment you need it.

Match it to the situation. A go bag wants a small stove, a single pot, and a spork, chosen for weight over comfort. A vehicle or home kit can carry a proper cook set and real utensils. And a manual can opener belongs in every kit that holds canned food, because it is the single most forgotten item in preparedness.
